Neurofeedback, or EEG biofeedback, is a method of treatment that uses electronic monitoring to feed back to you physiological information of which you are normally unaware.
Neurofeedback improves your physical and mental wellbeing and performance.
Neurofeedback, or EEG biofeedback, is a means of training designed to regulate brain wave activity, or states of consciousness.
The training allows you to monitor and modify brainwaves, directly affecting behaviour and academic performance as well as physical and emotional wellbeing.
This innovative technique is completely non-invasive and drug free.
After an initial assessment, a training program will be designed to suit your individual requirements.
Sensors are placed on the scalp and the ears; the brainwave activity is amplified and monitored by a computer.
Training is conducted with eyes open or closed.
The computer feeds back information in the form of visual and auditory signals and you learn to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations.
Changes in brainwave activity reflect states of arousal – from sleep to wakefulness.
The training can be described as a ‘cognitive’ or ‘operant’ conditioning technique in which your brain learns to regulate its own brainwaves or states of arousal. It has also been described as ‘aerobics for the brain’.
After initial evaluation and assessment, about 15 to 30 training sessions will be needed, depending on the severity of the condition. In some difficult cases more sessions may be needed. Sessions last between 20 minutes and approximately 45 minutes, and may be scheduled once or twice a week.
Since neurofeedback is a learning process, once advances have been made, retraining is not required unless trauma occurs causing new problems or reactivating old ones.
Neurofeedback (or EEG biofeedback) offers a drug-free, non-invasive treatment technique that can help people improve their health for a wide range of conditions.
Neurofeedback can help reduce stress and enhance academic, personal and social effectiveness and performance.
Neurofeedback is applicable to many clinical conditions, including:
